Angular Design
This awkwardly shaped small garden contained several pine trees which made it a difficult site. The brief was to create a design for a keen gardener with an eye to easy maintenance in retirement. Raised beds surrounded by paving enabled the soil to be improved to grow a wide range of plants. The paving could easily be swept and cleaned which was necessary under the pine trees.
Circular Design
This garden suffered from a difficult shape, many changes of levels and heavy clay soil. A series of circles both in paving and lawn with curved steps made the most of the space and created a very interesting garden. Plants were chosen to suit the soil and aspect and the result was spectacular.
Coastal Front Garden
This front garden was very close to the sea. It needed to be low maintenance but look good all year and be practical for car parking. The hardwood boardwalk and architectural seaside planting with a gravel mulch provided an effective scheme which looked right with the house and its setting.
Courtyard Garden
A small sheltered part of a much larger garden, the brief here was to create a sanctuary where large leaved tropical style plants could be grown. Contrasting materials and a feature brick circle for a bistro table and chairs combine with the planting to make a tranquil space in which to relax.
New Build
This small garden started life as a rectangle of lawn surrounded by fence. Raised beds with slate coping provide extra seating and easy maintenance. Planting hides the fence and creates a lovely view from the house throughout the year. A painted pergola with bench under create a focal point and a place from which to sit and have a different view of the garden.

Quirky painted summerhouse amongst pastel shades of planting add interest to the garden

Raised beds have a smooth slate coping which is practical from a maintenance point of view and very tactile
Retirement Garden
The garden was divided into small easily manageable areas which still allowed for the display of colourful potted plants and hanging baskets. A clay paved path provides the main route from the garage to the back of the house and a wooden pergola adds to the interest with a scented climber.
Seaside Holiday Home
A tiny garden of a newly built house needed to be transformed from a blank canvas of boring lawn and fence into a haven for wildlife and relaxation. The planting is unfussy for easy maintenance, but colourful and scented where possible. A circular raised bed with a central water feature and herbs creates a focal point within the garden.
Shady Oasis
This small courtyard garden receives very little sun but was very sheltered. Patios were positioned to enjoy the morning and afternoon sun with a curving brick paved path to connect the two. A shed was carefully positioned and screened with taller shrubs. The lush romantic planting created the effect of a shady bower, perfect with the historic house.
Small Cottage Garden
Another tiny garden which suffered from being overlooked on all sides. Strategic positioning of trellis panels with taller planting, a coppiced wooden structure and a pergola with an evergreen climber create privacy in the garden. The cottage style planting and climbers in abundance, soften the structures and create a haven for wildlife within the garden.
