Water features flank the pathway leading to the lawn beyond. These were raised, rendered and capped with slate matching the path. Lighting within the water feature creates a suitable ambiance when the garden is used at night.
Raised integral benches, capped with wood, create plenty of places to sit to enjoy parties or barbecues. Lighting set into each bench seat gives illumination and atmosphere in the evening. Composite decking in grey was used, not only to tone with colours used in the house and with the slate, but also as a practical low maintenance surface, for use in proximity to a hot tub.
The hard elements of the design were softened by stylish planting. Grasses, bamboo and palms complement the modern style of the garden. The garden seamlessly extends from the house to create a perfect area for socialising.
The area outside this house had not been touched since it was built. It had a small strip of patio and patchy grass with overgrown planting around. The inside of the house had been completely refurbished to create an ultra-modern space and the outside needed to reflect this style. It was intended to be a garden for entertaining.
A Garden for Socialising
Many people have modernised their properties, creating sleek, contemporary interiors. Traditional gardens with a patch of lawn and fussy planting does not provide the seamless, inside/outside effect that is so desired. This project aimed to redress this problem and create just such a garden. |
