Looking
towards the house you can see that the existing
patio is far too small to be functional and
the main focal point from the patio doors
is the rotary washing line.
The
dead area at the end of the garage has now
been made inviting and functional by the
use of decking. This creates a change of
level in the garden which is further enhanced
by lighting.
Different
areas have now been created for sitting and
entertaining. A small patio by the house
could be used for intimate dining, whilst
larger numbers can be seated in the main
area of paving. The garage has been made
more attractive by the addition of trellis
which will eventually be covered by colourful
climbers.
A
natural water feature has been positioned
so that it can be viewed both from the house
and whilst relaxing in the garden. Surrounding
planting softens the hard edges of the paving
and is in keeping with the watery theme.
The
view from the house shows an uninteresting
patch of lawn, whilst narrow strips of planting
lead your eye straight to the garage wall.
A dead area at the side of the garage is
unused and overgrown.
Warm,
attractive natural sandstone compliments
the house colour and the strong angled design
makes the garden appear to be a lot larger.
Small
Town Garden
Our aim for this garden
was to create a functional and contemporary area
which was to be used for both entertaining and
relaxation. Our clients wanted to replace their
lawn with a contrasting mixture of hard landscaping
materials, so that the garden had warmth and interest.
This back garden is surrounded and overlooked by
neighbouring properties and therefore ideally suited
to a courtyard style garden with interest kept
within and not outside the boundaries. Angled
paving and deep, lushly planted borders create
screening, colour and movement. |
