A pleasant high level deck with integral seating enables the enjoyment of the evening sun making the most of an otherwise unusable space. The vast area underneath the deck was converted into useful storage.
A steeply sloping bank close to the house was both an eye sore and impractical to maintain. An alternative seating area was requested to utilise the sunny position.
A circular deck creates an attractive and practical solution to seating in this previously unusable area. Vertical oak sleepers surround the deck. The sleepers retain the bank and create a feeling of intimacy for those sitting here. In the evening, lighting washes up from the base of the sleepers, highlighting the planting and creating an atmospheric feature.
Planting in front and around the deck softens and enhances the hard landscaping.
This garage conversion required an elevated deck to create a seating area set into the bank. Our design needed to consider retention of the bank, drainage and practical access, whilst providing a usable space that was attractive to look at.

This country garden had already had a lot of work done to improve it. We were asked to design two, very challenging seating areas, which needed to blend with the existing garden providing both aesthetically pleasing and practical areas for relaxation and entertaining. |
