The previous expanse of bumpy and uneven lawn was replaced by two circular lawns which were edged for easy maintenance. Ornamental gravel with spot planting and stepping stones provide interest and a practical low maintenance surface. An arch with climbers hints at the garden beyond. The water feature produces the cooling sound of water in this south facing garden in summer.
This view of the garden is taken from a small seating area with a bespoke pergola over the top. This will be covered by climbers which will provide shade, colour and scent particularly in the summer.
This before picture illustrates how uninspiring the garden was. A straight, concrete path leads to the end of the garden and a large expanse of uneven lawn requires a lot of mowing and edging.
Retirement Garden
The brief for this project was to build a garden which was interesting all year round but with very little maintenance. The view from the conservatory was important, as it was used daily both winter and summer. Attracting birds to the garden was also a consideration |
