This
picture shows just how poor the lawn looked
and how uninspiring the garden was as a whole.
A straight path from the gate leads to another
straight path in front of the house leaving
visitors unsure about which direction to take.
The
cobbles really emphasise the curves of the
design and do an excellent job of deterring
the dogs from the planting.
Much
of the garden is in shade so suitable planting
was suggested. Deer and rabbits also had
to be considered. The pot in the centre will
be replaced when our clients find a desirable
alternative.
After
work has been completed the garden now has
character, direction and interest. Paving,
bricks and cobbles pick out the colours of
the house and subtle planting softens the
hard landscaping.
New
Forest Garden
This garden has a wonderful
setting in the heart of the New Forest. Our
clients wanted to replace their patchy lawn
with hard landscaping and try to deter their
dogs from the planted borders. They also wanted
visitors, arriving through their side gate
to be directed to their front door, rather
than going round the back. A strong, circular
paved design, edged with bricks created definite
routes within the garden. An archway, planted
with climbing roses, entices visitors to go
through and round to the front of the house.
Protruding cobbles are uncomfortable for the
dogs to walk on and have kept them off the
planting. |
