This
view of the garden illustrates how small and
impractical the existing patio was. The garden
was a sun trap and the upper section of lawn
was baked and in poor condition.
In
the lower section of garden, attractive perennials,
which would tolerate the coastal situation
and thrive in the sandy soil, were added
for a continued splash of colour.
Being
such a bright and sunny position, vibrant
planting works really well and does not look
washed out, as a more subtle colour palette
would.
A
sundial acts as a centre piece for the surrounding
planting. Colour and fragrance create a wonderful
ambiance on the patio.
The
tired lawn was removed and the existing crazy
paving and planting areas increased, to create
a practically sized patio. The pictures that
follow show how the garden looked after planting.
Coastal
View Garden
This garden already
had some desirable features within it, such as
a swimming pool and some mature planting. Our clients
obviously wished to make the most of their wonderful
views over Poole harbour and asked us to redesign
it so that they had a much larger patio area in
which to entertain or simply sit and relax. Sandy,
free draining soil and an ambient micro-climate
meant that we could incorporate some tender, tropical
plants in amongst more regular but vibrant planting. |
